How do I get WaveSecure?

It's simple! Just go to either the Windows Mobile Marketplace, Android Market or Ovi Store and search for WaveSecure to get the application. You can also visit m.wavesecure.com on your mobile phone browser to download WaveSecure.

I have downloaded WaveSecure, how do I get it working?

After downloading WaveSecure, simply follow the installation process. You will be prompted to input a PIN and a Buddy Number. Your handset and data are then protected for as long as you keep your account going.

What is my username and PIN?

Your username is your phone number; remember that your username includes your country code. Your PIN is the same for the WaveSecure application and website access - it is the a 6-digit number you initially set as PIN when you first activated WaveSecure. Note: if we cannot get your phone number, we set your IMEI as your user name (press *#06# on your phone)

Can I install WaveSecure on my memory card?

We do not allow installation of WaveSecure on the memory card. The installation will go into the device memory of your handset.

I have several phones, can my account handle them?

We do not support multiple handsets on one account, but you can always sign up for a new account for each of your phones as long as you have different phones

I'm giving/throwing away my old handset; can I use my old account for my new handset?

Yes, you can, as long as you are using the same SIM. Simply download and install WaveSecure again and enter your existing account's PIN. Once you change your phone, your old phone will no longer be protected by WaveSecure.

I'm changing my phone number, but I want my account retained.

How do I subscribe to WaveSecure?

WaveSecure comes with a free 7-day trial. At the end of the trial, you will be prompted to subscribe. You can view payment options and subscribe from the application or from our web site.

How much it cost to subscribe to WaveSecure?

WaveSecure costs USD19.90 for a 1-year subscription. WaveSecure is available for BlackBerry, Symbian S60 and Windows Mobile platforms. It is currently free for Android users via the Android Market.

How easy is it to uninstall WaveSecure?

On Symbian and Windows Mobile phones, you will be prompted to put in your PIN before you can uninstall the application. On Android and BlackBerry phones, WaveSecure can be uninstalled without a PIN.

However, based on the experience of our users, a thief is likely to change the SIM in the phone to his own. The default setting for ‘Lock on SIM Change’ is on and the phone will lock when the thief powers up the phone.

We recommend that you lock your phone immediately by sending an SMS to your phone (Secure Lock <PIN>). When the phone is locked, a malicious user cannot unlock it to uninstall the application.

Using WaveSecure

Does my handset support WaveSecure?

WaveSecure is available for Android, BlackBerry, Symbian S60 and Windows Mobile. To see if your phone model is supported, visit the Supported Phone Finder.

Will WaveSecure drain my batteries faster?

The battery drain is negligible. Our observational data shows that it drains the battery around 3% faster for most normal usages.

Can I customize WaveSecure to suit my mobile usage patterns and preferences?

Yes, you can. WaveSecure offers you a range of customizable settings. For instance, you can configure the setting to automatically lock whenever the SIM card is replaced (because this would most likely imply the handset is stolen). Once you unlock your phone on a particular SIM card, the SIM becomes a Safe SIM and will not lock on it again. WaveSecure also enables you to backup different types of data the way you want it. For example, you can set it to automatically back up your crucial data such as contacts and SMS. We're working on introducing this feature to WaveSecure for Android.

Can WaveSecure protect my SIM too?

WaveSecure currently does not provide security for your SIM. If you lost both your phone and your SIM, you can use WaveSecure to protect your phone, and call your mobile operator to disable the SIM.

Am I guaranteed to get my phone back?

No, unfortunately no product can ever guarantee that you will get your phone back. If a thief decided to throw away your mobile into the river, microwave it, or blend it, there is no way WaveSecure or any other product can help you get your phone back. What we would advice is thus that you should regularly/automatically back up your data, so you will always have a copy no matter what happens; and in case you lose it, immediately lock your phone and make it worthless, track the thief’s number and locate your phone, and give the thief a call to tell him you know where he is and encourage him to return your phone. Most of the time, this would give you a very high chance of getting your phone back!

Locking

What happens if I enable 'Autolock on SIM Change' in Settings on my device?

If you choose this option, your handset will automatically be locked when the SIM card is changed to an "unsafe" SIM.

Can I send an SMS to lock my phone?

Yes, you can control your phone remotely via text messages.

What's the difference between my handset's built-in lock and WaveSecure's device lock?

WaveSecure's lock is a much more intelligent lock than the built-in lock. First of all, it allows you to remote control your phone anytime. Secondly, it enables you to show a message on the device to urge the person to return to phone to you, as well as enable you to contact the person. In addition, it also provides an acknowledgement to confirm whether your phone has been/has not been locked, so you will have the peace of mind to know that your phone is really protected.

Tracking

I have the handset thief's number, what can I do?

You can choose to call the person who took your handset, surprise him and advice him to return the handset. Alternatively, you can choose to file a report with the police. There really are many things you can do with WaveSecure, just use your creativity!

What does WaveSecure track?

WaveSecure helps you track down every detail of the activities in your handset. You can easily track any new SIM cards inserted into your handset by visiting the Track page. You can also use the backup feature to track down all the SMS sent/received, incoming/outgoing phone calls, etc. This can help you keep a record of your own usage, or track down the thief's identity in case of theft.

Can I track the geographical location of my handset?

Yes! We have added the much asked for location tracking feature. You can view your phone's location even if you do not have your phone with you. Simply login to your account and click on location!

Backup, Restore and Wipe

What data can I backup, upload, restore and wipe?

Backup: Phone contacts, SMS, Call Logs, Calendar Items Upload: Photos, Videos Restore: Contacts, SMS, Calendar Items Wipe: Contacts, SMS, Email, Calendar Items, Photos, Videos and Memory Card

How can I backup my data?

Backup can be done in three ways:
  • Auto Backup: [currently unavailable for Android and BlackBerry] Go to the WaveSecure application located on your handset to set this option on. Select and Enter the "Backup Now" Function. In the settings menu, you will be able to select auto backup. You can choose the frequency of auto backup. Only new data will be backed up, so you do not have to worry about excessive GPRS usage.
  • Manual Web Backup: Go to the web portal, log in with your username and PIN, and go the Backup Section. You may manually select the data items you wish to backup.
  • Device Backup: Go to the WaveSecure application located on your handset to do a Manual Backup. Select and Enter the "Backup Now" Function. You will be presented with a list of items to backup; Select the data items you wish to backup, and back it up using the command from the options menu.

Do I incur any data charges when I backup or restore my data?

There are no extra charges for using WaveSecure to backup or restore your data. However, depending on your data plan, you may incur additional data charges from your network operator. Also, if you are outside Singapore, US and UK, your operator might charge for international text messages when commands are sent from the website to your phone.

Miscellaneous

How safe is my data with you?

All of the servers and communications are secured to the highest standards, using technologies equivalent to the banks or credit card companies.

WaveSecure was initially developed for Police and Military use, so it has all the necessary encryption systems and communication security systems that ensures no one can view the private content of users, not even our staff. WaveSecure is also one of the leading mobile security products adopted and trusted by millions of users, there are zero reported cases of any loss in data privacy and integrity.

Lastly, at the end it is completely your choice – no data will be uploaded at all unless you choose to upload your data. If you still have concerns, simply choose to not upload any data but other security features will still work.

I am worried about data charges, will I be using 3G or GPRS while on WaveSecure?

That's an interesting question. Yes we do have to use a data connection to backup and restore your data; that is completely in your control on when and how it happens, or not at all. There may also be very minimal data usages for your phone to inform server on status such as whether the phone is locked. Please refer to your network operator as to what are the data usages for your mobile line.

What is GPRS?

General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a data service for your handset. Basically it allows you to use the internet, send out MMS, or other activities that require the usage of data transfer on your handset.

How do I setup GPRS?

Newer handsets should have automatically GPRS configured access points. If you don't, please call your operator to help you set it up.
